Medical snake symbols
Staff-and-serpent symbols associated with medicine and healing, most prominently the Rod of Asclepius and the frequently (and historically incorrectly) substituted caduceus. Mega Sprint 14 extended the group along the axis it was already about — where the rod actually ends up — by adding the star of life, which carries the rod at its centre to mark emergency medical services, and the bowl of Hygieia, which marks pharmacy rather than medical practice.
Rod of Asclepius
A staff with a single serpent coiled around it, associated in Greek mythology with Asclepius, the god of medicine.
Caduceus
A winged staff with two serpents wound around it, originally the attribute of Hermes (Mercury), the messenger god.
Star of Life
A blue six-barred star with a serpent-and-staff at its centre, marking emergency medical services.
Bowl of Hygieia
A serpent coiled around a stemmed bowl, marking pharmacy.
