Symbolwise is a symbol reference. It collects the minimum needed to run the site and to decide what to research next, and nothing for advertising.

What we collect

Searches that fail. When a search returns nothing, or nothing confident, we log the search text and a timestamp. No IP address, account identifier or device fingerprint is stored with it. This is how the editorial team learns which symbols people look for and cannot find; see our editorial policy. Searches that succeed are not logged.

What you send us. Contact, enquiry, missing-symbol and correction forms collect what you choose to provide — typically a name, an email address and your message. It is used to respond to and act on your submission, and is never sold or shared for marketing.

Analytics, only if you accept. Once the site is publicly launched, a banner asks whether you accept analytics cookies. If you accept, Google Analytics 4 records page views with your IP address anonymised. If you decline, or before you choose, no analytics script loads at all — the decision is made on our server, so your browser never contacts Google. Advertising features, cross-site identifiers and demographic reporting are switched off. Full detail of each cookie is on the cookies page.

What we never send to third parties. The text you type into the search box. It stays on our own systems.

How long we keep it

Failed-search logs are kept while they remain useful for prioritising research and are reviewed periodically; because they carry no identifier, they cannot be traced back to you. Form submissions are kept for as long as needed to deal with the enquiry and any follow-up. Analytics data is retained under the Google Analytics retention setting configured for the property.

Your choices

You can decline analytics, or change your mind later by deleting the consent cookie named on the cookies page. You can ask what we hold about you, ask for it to be corrected or deleted, or object to how we use it, by writing to hello@symbolwise.app or through the contact page. If a symbol record itself is wrong, the correction route is faster.

How long we keep things

The principle is to hold as little as possible for as short a time as possible.

• Enquiries and form submissions are kept only for as long as we need them to answer you and to deal with anything arising from that, and are then removed.
• Failed-search logs carry no identifier of any kind — no IP address, no account, no device fingerprint — so they cannot be traced back to a person. They are kept while they remain useful for deciding what to research next.
• Analytics data is held by Google under the retention period configured on the analytics property, and only if you accepted analytics in the first place.
• Nothing else. We do not build profiles, we do not keep a record of what you searched for successfully, and we do not retain personal data because it might be useful later.
