An upside-down r, for the r sound of English red.
Also known as: ɹ, Turned r, Upside-down r, English r
In the International Phonetic Alphabet a turned r denotes an alveolar approximant, the r sound of most accents of English. It is not the trilled r that the ordinary letter r denotes in the alphabet.
Denotes an alveolar approximant, made with the tongue tip approaching the alveolar ridge without contact or friction.
