A red lozenge standing on one point.
Also known as: Diamonds, Red diamond on a card, Red lozenge
A plain rhombus, and the most abstract of the four. It replaced the German bells, and the shape is thought to derive from the square tiles of a paved floor rather than from a gemstone.
One of the four French suits, printed in red, and the lowest-ranking suit in bridge.
Replaced the German suit of bells. The French name carreau means a square floor tile, which is the likeliest source of the shape; the English name is a later reading of the form rather than a translation.
The most abstract of the four, which is why it is the suit most often mistaken for a printing device or a corner ornament by a reader unfamiliar with cards.
A solid red rhombus standing on one of its points, taller than it is wide.
Both are rhombuses standing on a point, in unrelated systems.
