An underlined number showing ground exposed at low water.
Also known as: Drying figure, Uncovering height
An underlined number on a chart is a height that dries — ground standing above chart datum and uncovered at low water. The underline is the only thing separating a metre of water from a metre of mud, which makes it one of the most consequential marks on a chart.
Gives the height above chart datum of ground that uncovers at low water, distinguished from a sounding by being underlined.
