Chassis ground is a connection to the equipment's frame, which is not necessarily a connection to earth. Confusing it with protective earth is a safety error rather than a drafting one, and the three symbols — earth, chassis and signal ground — are deliberately drawn differently.
Denotes a connection to the conductive frame or enclosure of a piece of equipment, used as a common return.
