Clustered closed depressions.
Also known as: Karst map symbol China
Denotes karst topography — sinkholes, closed depressions and limestone towers — on a Chinese topographic map.
Uses inward ticks to say the closed loop is a hole and not a hill, which is the same convention a depression contour uses everywhere; the symbol matters disproportionately in China because the south-western provinces contain one of the largest karst regions on earth.
Contexts: Maps
A scatter of small closed loops with inward-pointing ticks along their edges, marking depressions rather than rises.
