A physical frame hung at the limit height.
Also known as: Height limit frame China, Height gantry China
The Chinese practice of hanging a marked frame or bar at the clearance height itself, so a driver meets the limit rather than reads it.
Prevents vehicles above the stated height from passing.
Contexts: Road signage
Substitutes a physical obstruction for a sign, on the reasoning that a driver who has not read the plate will hear the chains; the arrangement is common on Chinese village and county roads and is a different design philosophy from the sign-only approach used on most networks.
Contexts: Road signage
A horizontal bar or a hanging row of chains slung between two posts across the carriageway, striped diagonally and carrying a height figure on a plate.
