A red button in a yellow housing.
Also known as: Platform emergency button Japan
Marks the button on a Japanese platform that stops approaching trains, for use when someone falls onto the track.
Stops approaching trains when pressed.
Contexts: Public information
Is deliberately placed at intervals a passenger can reach within a few seconds from anywhere on the platform, and lights a lineside signal rather than braking any train directly; the design assumption is that a bystander will press it, so the mark has to be readable by someone who has never looked at it before.
