Marks a michi-no-eki, the registered Japanese roadside rest area that combines parking, information and a local produce market.
Denotes an institution rather than a facility: a michi-no-eki is registered with the ministry, must provide parking, lavatories and local information free of charge around the clock, and in practice functions as a farmers' market and a regional promotion office. There is no close counterpart in the motorway service area of other countries.
