A Greek phi or delta, how far into a cycle a wave is.
Also known as: Phase, Phase difference, Phase shift, Phi in physics
The phase angle says where in its cycle an oscillation currently is, and it is only ever meaningful as a difference between two things. A phase quoted with no reference is meaningless, which is the one fact the notation never states.
Denotes the phase of a periodic quantity, the argument of its sine or cosine.
Contexts: Laboratory
Is physically meaningful only as a difference between two oscillations or between an oscillation and a chosen reference.
Contexts: Laboratory
Is written φ, δ or θ depending on the field, all three current and none preferred by ISO 80000.
