A proof approval stamp is a printed box on a press proof or a contract proof carrying a signature and a date, and it does something more than confirm that somebody looked. Signing it is the point at which responsibility for the content passes to the customer: an error found after approval is chargeable, and an error found before it is the printer's to fix. Boxes often separate approval of content from approval of colour, because the two are checked by different people.
