A sleep timer switches the device off after a set period. It is distinct from standby: the timer reaches an off state, while standby is a state the device is already in, and the same crescent moon is sometimes used for both.

Contexts: Electrical equipment
Is not the same as standby, though the crescent is used for both on some devices: one is a timed action and the other a resting state.
