Aircraft are graded by the wake turbulence they generate — light, medium, heavy and super — which sets how far behind one another they may fly. The categories are about mass rather than size, and the separation is what the grading exists to determine.
Grades an aircraft by the strength of the wake vortices it generates, in categories from light to super.
