Which side of the reference line a weld symbol sits on.

A welding symbol's position relative to the reference line says which side of the joint is welded, and ISO and American practice express this differently: ISO 2553 uses a dashed identification line, AWS puts arrow-side symbols below the line and other-side above. Reading one convention as the other welds the wrong face.
