Signs that identify a currency rather than a country. Several are shared — the dollar sign serves many dollars and pesos, the yen sign serves both the yen and the yuan — so the sign alone rarely settles which currency is meant, and a code or prefix usually has to do that work. Most are letters crossed by one or two strokes, a convention that makes them recognisable as money at a glance.
