Crosses, diamonds and circles standing for different drums.
Also known as: Drum notation heads, X notehead
Percussion notation replaces pitch with instrument: a cross for a cymbal, a normal head for a drum, a diamond for a bell or a harmonic. There is no universal assignment, so a drum part carries a key at the start telling the player what each line means.
Distinguish percussion instruments by notehead shape rather than by pitch, the staff position naming the instrument.
Contexts: Music
Follow no universal assignment, which is why a percussion part conventionally opens with a key explaining its own notation.

Note shapes drawn variously as a small cross, a hollow diamond, a circled head or an ordinary oval on the staff.
