A dynamic mark at the end of a hairpin fixing its destination.
Also known as: Terminal dynamic, Hairpin destination
A crescendo hairpin says get louder and not how loud, so a dynamic marking at its end is what gives it a destination. A hairpin ending without one leaves the player guessing, which is a real and common engraving omission.
Fix the level a crescendo or diminuendo arrives at, since the hairpin itself specifies only direction.
Contexts: Music
Leave the destination undefined when omitted, which the engraving literature treats as a defect rather than as an expressive choice.
