A bracket and number squeezing extra notes into a beat.
Also known as: Triplet marking, Irregular grouping
A number over a bracket says that the notes beneath occupy the time of a different number of the same value โ three in the space of two for a triplet, five in the space of four for a quintuplet. The number alone leaves the reference implied, which is why irregular tuplets are often written as a ratio.
Groups notes to be played in the time of a different number of the same note value, the numeral giving the count.
Contexts: Music
Implies the reference value from context for common tuplets, and is written as an explicit ratio where the implication would be ambiguous.
Contexts: Music
A numeral centred over a square-cornered bracket or a curved line spanning a group of notes.
