Standardised under the EU Waste Electrical and Electronic Equipment (WEEE) Directive — instructs that the item must not be thrown away as unsorted municipal waste and must instead be collected separately for treatment.
Signals the item must be collected separately from general municipal waste, for treatment and recycling of electronic equipment under EU Directive 2002/96/EC (recast as 2012/19/EU) — a disposal instruction, not a recyclability claim by itself.
